To teach in a learning-centered university that rewards my passion and dedication as an educator and supports my efforts to strive for higher achievement in my personal professional pursuits as a practicing artist and scholar involved in creative storytelling, all stages of film production, and personal academic research from concept to publication.

EMPLOYMENT:

PRESENT: Writer/Filmmaker – founded Ethnofilms (www.ethnofilms.com) in 2005. It is an independent production company of culturally significant visual stories with specialization in the ethnographic and experimental. In addition, Ethnofilms produces a "literature on film" series for young viewers and short films.

In post production: Going Home (to My Second Home) a cinema vérité oral history documentary of the State Orphans Home class of 1938 reunion in Corsicana TX.

In development: a screenplay for an animated feature for ages 4-10.

In distribution: a short bio-doc of The Life & Writings of Katherine Mansfield that includes a short film adaptation of her work Miss Brill (completed Feb 2006) and chosen for KidsFirst.Org 3rd Quarter Traveling Film Festival. It is the first of the "literature on film" series for Ethnofilms).

In partnership: Alla Faccia Productions LLC NY, to shoot, produce, and promote cooking videos for "Benny the Chef!" (as well as create www.bennythechef.com website).

2008 to 2012: Adjunct Professor – Columbia College, Chicago. IL. Taught undergraduate lecture courses in the Film & Video Department: Documentary & Social Change; Documentary Storytelling; & The Music Documentary. Also taught courses of my own design in Ethnographic Film and Ethnographic Film Production.

2007: Adjunct Professor – California State University San Bernardino, San Bernardino, CA. Created and taught a production course in Ethnographic Filmmaking for the Anthropology Department undergraduate program. The area is a subgenre of documentary filmmaking used to present ethnographic research findings done as part of a social scientists ethnography or dissertation research.

2005: Screenplay Analyst – Dan L. Paulson Productions, Santa Monica, CA. Served a 5 month internship as part of the MFA Screenwriting degree requirements. Read screenplays; wrote a story synopsis and evaluation coverage for each.

95 - 99: Writer/Photographer/Videographer – Freelance for all markets (professional & non-profit): corp. videos, commercials, features, print ads, training manuals, museum brochures, technical manuals, newsletters, articles, incl. photography, graphic design, publication; film editing/video-editing and multi-track sound recording (proficiency in MS Word, Final Draft, EP Budgeting (film production budgeting software), Excel, PageMaker, Adobe PhotoShop/Illustrator, Adobe Premiere Pro & others).

92 - 94: Director of Marketing & Advertising – Franklin Brass Mfg. Co. - Executed all advertising projects from concept/layout/design to photography and printing of catalogs, product packaging materials, and promos. Produced ads for national trade magazine ads for both the retail/dealer and commercial/builder divisions. Principal contact for all PR/media. Reported directly to Pres/Owner. Worked with Sales VP creating & expediting materials for national promotions. Selected & supervised vendor projects, wrote copy/press releases. Traveled US coordinating all Mfg. & Dealer trade shows & national sales meetings.

91 - 92: Freelance Marketing Consultant -

Franklin Brass Mfg. Co., Los Angeles, CA. Originally hired for a temporary assignment. Led to the offer of the permanent position as listed above (92 - 94).

Lange Productions, Hollywood, CA: Award winning medical video production co. Contracted primarily to develop marketing/sales, provide administrative support & production assistance for scriptwriting, photography, correspondence & PR. Worked on several productions.

Express Furniture Rental, Pomona, CA: Hired as a Project Director; set up special division of corporate relocation services.

90 - 91: Director of Marketing & Sales - First Choice Inns Hotels - Handled all marketing/sales and headed in-house ad agency (direct mail, promos, and all PR).

89: Freelance Copywriter – (part-time) wrote radio scripts and commercial jingles during winter holidays for KVEN/KHAY RADIO, Ventura, Ca.

86 - 90: Marketing Coordinator - Express Furniture Rental, So. CA. - Handled all advertising, promotions, editor of company newsletter, and headed in-house ad agency. Wrote & produced training videos including principal photos and trained sales staff.

84 - 86: Radio Copywriter/Voice-Over Artist – Wrote radio scripts, created and recorded character voice-overs, wrote and recorded jingles. Hired as an account executive for ad sales, co-op, and conducting live promotions for KKBZ/KAAP RADIO Santa Paula, CA. & KBBY/KBBQ RADIO, Ventura, CA.

78 - 83: Store Manager - Ritz Camera Centers, INC., USA. - Handled in-store promos, displays, advertising, co-op, etc. Supervised and trained store staff. Taught Photo Classes, equipment instruction, advanced techniques, and darkroom. Expertise in lighting and flash photography. Wrote & produced slide presentations, traveled VA as instructor for the Ritz Camera Photo School and transferred to Northridge in 1982 to do the same for the So.Ca. district.

OTHER:

photography: Professional product work: furniture, hardware, bath decor, textiles, metals, horticulture, archaeology, etc. for technical reproduction, exhibit, as well as promotional use. Own: 35mm, 2&1/4, 4 x 5, & digital cameras, studio lighting equipment, and darkroom.

video/film: Hands on experience in all aspects of production; scripting, lighting, directing, shooting, editing, set design, and costuming. Own: 8mm movie, Hi8, Canon XL1S, Alura DV, Sony HDV, Digital still cameras: Panasonic, Canon, Nikon with interchangeable lenses. Audio: Fostex digital multi-track sound recorder (used for studio & location), wireless microphone equipment, and for film scoring: Guitar (acoustic & electric) Piano and Electronic Keyboard synthesizer. Full DV nonlinear video & audio software programs owned and/or used (Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, Avid Xpress Pro HD, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Audition (audio software), Adobe Encore (DVD Authoring software) and other interrelated graphic software such as PhotoShop, Illustrator. Web design software: Dreamweaver, Adobe GoLive.

Film Festival Selection for a short Biographical Documentary on The Life & Writings of Katherine Mansfield Chosen for exhibition by KidsFirst.Org as part of their 3rd Quarter Traveling Film Festival 2006. Received a Festival Endorsement 2 Star Rating.

Finalist for the Roy W. Dean Writing Grant 2006.

Second Home - Second to None placed in the Second Rounder designation for the Austin Film Festival 2005.
